Go-To Colors For Spring

Go-To+Colors+For+Spring

It has been a long time coming, but Spring is finally here! If we are being completely honest, I personally do not love this time of year… My fashion choices typically involve neutral colors, layers, and great coats so when the weather starts to warm up, I feel a bit out of place. I would say that in the past my best looks have come out of the colder months.

This year I am making it a mission of mine to be more proactive in finding great spring pieces that will keep me feeling FRESH in this new season. One of the big trends that we are going to see all around this spring is the introduction of colors, hence this post. Bold colors like neon greens, yellows, and oranges as well as more muted and pastel colors will be the front and center of almost every store come peak springtime.

The recent introduction of bold colors on last season’s runways was a bit of a shock to me, especially since there was such a huge push towards the “Yeezy” look a year ago (that being neutrals such as brown, grey, black, etc). I was so invested in the neutral style that in my most recent clothing donation, I included a bunch of patterned and colorful button ups, shirts, and pants… that was a mistake. Since color is back in full swing, here is a roundup of great pieces in some of the major colors for spring.

Blue

One of the easiest and most approachable colors to incorporate for guys. Blue can be done in many ways outside of simply a jean. Try a fun floral top by Blue Blue Japan or this lightweight two tone blue and white short sleeve from Howlin’. One really exciting thing I’m looking forward to incorporating is pastels and 90’s inspired shirts, like this long sleeve oxford from Aimé Leon Dore. If color is something that you are typically afraid of incorporating, blue is a great way to dip your feet in the water (pun intended).

 Green

Slime is just fun. This hue of green is such a huge part of fashion and can be found in both high end and affordable retailers from Mr. Porter to ASOS. Try it out slowly with neon Versace socks of jump in full throttle with a slime green Collusion roll neck. I think I may buy those Versace socks right after this post goes live…

Yellow

Feeling bold? Yellow is a great choice. With so many different varieties of yellow, you can really make a look as loud or unassuming as you wish. Get the Balenciaga sneaker look for less with an Air Max 270 Bowfin Sneaker or be a little more subtle in a pale-yellow James Perse tee. Keep it simple, yet bright with a quality hoodie by Helmut Lang and a more affordable ASOS denim jacket in pastel yellow.

Orange

I wore this k-fashion “TIME” shirt recently to the Robyn concert at Madison Square Garden thinking I would stand out like a sore thumb. When I got there, I realized I was nothing special and hundreds of people were wearing their favorite neon orange pieces. Clearly, this is a color that is at the forefront of the color trend for spring. Embrace it in a simple solid orange hoodie or integrate your inner “aloha spirit” to your wardrobe in an ASOS design short sleeve top.

Red

Red is a color I am typically a bit shy of because I feel like I can’t really pull it off. For this reason, I have included accessories that anyone could pull of, even me! Grab a pair of red platform sneakers by Eytys or throw on a pop of red with a Carhartt flight bag. I personally own a similar pair of red track pants to the Martine Rose ones below and they are one of my favorite loungewear pieces.
