9 Binge Worthy Shows For Gloomy Winter Weather
While some of my two days off are full off outings around New York City, others are spent cuddled up on the couch with my Snuggie (yes I own one of those). When those weekends of endless grey clouds fall upon us, sometimes the best option is to grab some popcorn and start binging all the best that streaming TV has to offer. Here are a list of some of the shows I am currently binging and others I am regretting I finished so quickly.
Good Girls (NBC, Netflix, Hulu)
The perfect mix of comedy, suspense, and great writing, Good Girls is the perfect winter weekend show. This is the story of what happens when 3 suburban moms decide to rob and small neighborhood grocery store and end up getting WAY more than they bargained for. I love this show for the amazing balance of laugh out loud humor and edge of your seat suspense. With a powerhouse cast including Christina Hendricks, Mae Whitman, and Ruby Hill (“Donna” from Parks and Recreation), this show is sure to be one of your new favorites. I know I am counting down the days till the second season premiers on March 3rd.
Money Heist (Netflix)
A recent find of mine, La Casa De Papel (Money Heist in English) is a suspense filled drama about a bank heist put on by a genius known as “the professor” and 8 of his appointed associates. This show will hook you from the start and keep you watching with all the twist, turns, and cliffhangers. I’m actually yawning while writing this blog post because I stayed up until 2:30 am watching 3 episodes after telling myself I’d go to sleep after one. The show is originally in Spanish but has been dubbed in other languages including English.
Ozark (Netflix)
Even though I’m pretty sure everyone knows about this show I had to put it on the lists since I finally just finished the second season. Another show with spectacular writing and acting and full of hours of suspense and action. If you are a fan on cartel shows about drugs, corruption, and power dynamics then this is one to watch.
Rotten (Netflix)
If you love documentaries like me, I’d recommend checking out the show Rotten. Each hour long episode of this docu-series dives into a specific scandals in the food industry, many of which you have probably never even heard of. Ranging from the corrupt business of Garlic production, to the honey scandal that resulted in the largest food fraud investigation and prosecution in history. Who knew food shows could be so thrilling!
Blue Plant II (Netflix)
If you are familiar with the BBC’s Planet Earth series, this is its underwater counterpart. I am obsessed with all things ocean life and re-watch episodes of this show at least a few times a month. The crew on this series is able to capture the most incredible footage of the unexplored ocean. My personal favorite episode is the Deep Sea episode, its like watching aliens on another plant and I love it!
Sharp Objects (HBO)
Where do I start… This show is one of the most dense and detailed I have seen in a while. It is no wonder it was nominated for Best Limited Series at the Golden Globes. From the mind of Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), this show is one you will not be able to keep your eyes off of (and you shouldn’t because every flashback shot, angle, and monologue is drawing you closer to discovering the truth of what is going on in this HBO drama). The show follows a female reporter who travels back to her small southern town to investigate the disappearance and murder of two small girls. I want to say SO MUCH MORE but you will have to watch for yourself. The s*** is crazy.
Great News (Netflix)
From the mind of the hilarious Tina Fey, Great News is a hilarious sitcom that is about a young news producer who’s mom starts working as an intern for the station. You’ll hear hilarious one liners and see cameos from people such as Tina Fey herself.
Nailed It (Netflix)
Do you love baking shows, but hate how they make you feel like the worst cook in America? Nailed It is the show for you. This hilarious baking competition show where “amateur” contestant try and recreate immaculate baking creations is sure to make you not feel alone the next time you burn the holiday cookies.
Haunting of Hill House (Netflix)
Not a show for the faint of heart, Haunting of Hill House is a horror series that is sure to have your neighbors asking “what is going on next door.” What makes this show different from a lot of the other horror shows/movies that are out is that the storyline, writing, and editing is done in this really unique and incredible way that you don’t typically see in this genre. A definite recommend for a weekend in, but I’d suggest you have a few other people in the room with you just in case it gets a little too intense.
If you are watching, or planning on watching, any of the shows on this list make sure to LIKE this blog post and let me know in the comments! I’m always looking for new great shows to watch so if there are any you are dying to share don’t hesitate!
